Episode 41: November’s Monthly Local Mix
November 28, 2006

Hello again!
We’re closing out the month of November with a mix of songs sure to wake you from even the worst Tryptophan-induced slumber (and believe us, that was the best of a number of dreadful Thansgiving references we batted about over here). This week we’ve got nine tracks by some great Bay Area acts:
The Old-Fashioned Way kick off our show with a song showcasing their knack for clever lyricism and great pop songwriting. Check them out at their web site or MySpace page for more details.
The Lovely Public’s Burning Tape At The Mystery Dinner has been recieving much airplay at The Bay Bridged HQ in recent weeks. Be sure to catch them at Donuts on December 11th at The Knockout.
We included a song from Boyskout in our South by Southwest mix about ten months ago. We’re pleased to report that they’ve just released a new album, Another Life, on Three Ring Records. For more information, go to their web site or MySpace page. You can download the song here or purchase the album at the iTunes Music Store.
Dreamdate’s 7″ The One I Need b/w D.A.N.C.E. Party, from which we heard the A-side, is really great poppy stuff. Hear more over at their MySpace page, and head on over to their record label, Chocolate Covered Records, to purchase the 7″. They promise a full-length CD will be out soon.
We also heard a song by Michael Zapruder’s Rain of Frogs off of their CD New Ways of Letting Go released earlier this year on Howells Transmitter. It’s some great sophisticated pop music. To hear more off the record, head to Michael’s web site or the band’s MySpace page. You can download this track here or download the full album at the iTunes Music Store.
Tartufi meld pop and progressive elements into some really rewarding songs. We heard a track from their latest full-length Us Upon Buildings Upon Us. They’re playing a show at Bottom of the Hill on November 30th. For more information, head to their web site or MySpace page.
The Hot Toddies recently sent us their fun and catchy self-titled EP. They are playing a number of shows in the coming weeks, including a December 1st show at Hotel Utah and December 2nd at Beckett’s in Berkeley. All the dates and details can be found on their MySpace page.
We also heard a song from French Disco’s latest EP, Icon. You can catch them at The Make-Out Room on December 6th and Cafe du Nord on January 5th. For more information on these dates and to hear more of their music, visit their MySpace page.
We met The Most at the Social Studies CD release show a few weeks ago, and have really been digging their Welcome to the Breakfast Show EP since. Head on over to their MySpace page for more info!
Thanks again for listening! We hope you’ll join us at both of this week’s Featured Shows. For more information, click each of the banners, and be sure to check out all of the great shows in the next few weeks on our Local Concert Calendar!
Episode 40: Social Studies
November 21, 2006

Welcome to our 40th Episode!
Several months ago, we asked Social Studies to send us a song for our August Monthly Local Mix. Over the next few weeks, we ended up playing that song, “Sparrow,” repeatedly over here. Seeing the band live at the Make-Out Room didn’t help quench our demand for more Social Studies. Their live show is loaded with frenetic energy, a dynamic sound, and some very fancy outfits. At that point we realized, we must sit down, meet these people, and share their music with everyone.
A few weeks ago we were privileged to sit down with Aaron, Natalia, Darren and Mike over at The Bay Bridged headquarters to discuss their first release, This is the World’s Biggest Hammer, in what turned out to be one of our most memorable interviews. We also got to hear about their take on playing live, how hundreds of multi-color tambourines became apart of the band, and even attempted to crack open a bottle of champagne in celebration of the albums printing. This is a great interview that also has four tracks played off of This is the World’s Biggest Hammer for all to enjoy!
Social Studies have a bunch of shows coming up throughout the area and we highly recommend checking one of them out!

Episode 39: The Fucking Ocean
November 14, 2006

Hello again,
Over the weekend, we spoke with The Fucking Ocean, a band that draws from punk and post-punk influences to create songs that are intermittently screamy and melodic, and brimming with danceable energy. Equally important, though, is the social consciousness they express in their lyrics.
We spoke with Matt, Marcella, and John a few days prior to the release of their brand new CD, Le Main Rouge, and talked about writing the record, expressing political views lyrically, and their recent touring experiences. We chatted at their practice space in SoMa and our conversation is soundtracked by the bands in adjacent practice spaces.
In addition to the talk, we’ve included four songs from the new album, including an early recording of “Invisible Line.” For more information about purchasing the album, head over to Double Negative Records and stay on top of the band’s MySpace page and currently under construction web site for more details.
We’re also excited about their record release show on Thursday, which promises to be a lot of fun. Details below:
Thursday, November 16th
Bottom of the Hill
9pm, with Kid 606 & Friends and Warbler
$8
Thanks again for listening and we’ll hope to see you back here next week!
Episode 38: Dark Side of the Cop
November 7, 2006

Welcome back!
Don’t get distracted by Dark Side of the Cop’s name, derived from the band’s original goal of writing songs to play while watching Beverly Hills Cop. The band’s music establishes that they aren’t a gimmick. Quite the contrary, their self-titled debut album is a heartfelt take on Beach Boys-style pop, utilizing beautiful melodies and sweet synthesizer arrangements to wonderful effect. Honestly, it’s one of the best albums from the Bay Area all year.
We caught up with Marco and Roger at Muddy Waters in the Outer Mission just before they went on their most recent tour, which has included a performance at the NEMO music festival and several at CMJ. We spoke about preparations for the tour, how a project of originally limited scope has expanded into a full-blown band, and their plans for the future. These guys are funny and talented, and they displayed a level-headed sensibility about the business side of the music industry. In other words, we hope and expect that they will go far.
You can purchase Dark Side of the Cop from their record label, Auger Down Records, by going here, or you can purchase it at CD Baby. Keep checking our calendar for their next show in the Bay Area!
Also, thanks to everybody who came to our The Bay Bridged Presents show last Friday. These live shows have been such a blast to put on, and we fully intend to keep producing them in the future. Until next week, thanks again for listening!
