Episode 64: Or, the Whale
May 15, 2007

Stream the episode:
It’s fitting that we’re covering Or, the Whale during the middle of Mission Creek, since we first got wind of this band during last year’s festival. Since then, we’ve seen their exuberant live show in venues ranging from house parties to The Make-Out Room, and we’ve been eagerly awaiting their debut full-length for some time.
That album, Light Poles and Pines, will be released May 20th at the band’s CD release party and we sat down with the band recently at The Bay Bridged Headquarters to discuss the new album and the band’s lengthy upcoming summer tour. We’ve also included four songs from the new CD in the episode.
Judging by the crowds we’ve seen at their recent shows, and confirmed by the band members during our interview, this is a band that appeals to a variety of crowds with its unique blend of americana, alt-country, indie rock and folk, a mix of sounds conveyed through strong musicianship and wonderful vocal harmonies. Plus, they’re really nice people and quite funny, which made for a very enjoyable interview.
Catch Or, the Whale at their CD release show this Sunday night, or, if you can’t make that show, see them at Amoeba on Saturday:
Saturday, May 19th
Amoeba Records
2pm, free
Sunday, May 20th
Cafe du Nord
8pm, $10, 21+
w/ The Finches and Last of the Blacksmiths
To pick up the new album, head on over to the band’s web site and hear some more tracks at their MySpace page.

derrrr….we forgot to tell you! there’s a mislisting of tracks 11 and 12 on the artwork for the record. so you played “Bound to Go Home” instead of “Prayer for the Road.” hence no organ! haha. ehhh, what can you do?
thank for the interview fellas. made us sound somewhat intelligible. which we’re not. see you this weekend!
love,
alex and otw

I saw Or, the Whale on Thursday, May 22 in Portland. Wow, they were great! Of course, Lindsey is smokin’ HOTTTT! They really had a vibe I enjoyed. If you get a chance, don’t miss seeing them live.
