Video Podcast Episode 8: The Botticellis - “Up Against The Glass”

September 30, 2008

Here is the second of two video podcast episodes featuring San Francisco’s The Botticellis, from a performance recorded in our former headquarters earlier this year. The band’s full length debut Old Home Movies is a meticulously crafted affair, with well-placed layers of analog sound creating some amazing dynamic swells. As these episodes reveal, however, there’s some great songwriting at the core of it all. In this episode, the band plays one of our favorite songs from their debut, “Up Against The Glass.”

The video was shot and edited by the talented gentlemen of Bank of Karma; the audio was recorded and mixed by The Bay Bridged. [More...]

Rademacher Releases Era EP Tuesday

September 29, 2008

Rademacher, an indie rock band that splits its time between SF, Fresno and LA, will release their new EP Era Tuesday on Jaxart Records. The new album celebrates the band’s uncanny ability to write mellow but catchy indie rock tunes and highlight each individual’s strengths. Light drums compliment the ethereal guitar sounds and the slightly dark quality of the vocals. Here’s an mp3 of the opening track:

Winter’s Fall: Winter’s Fall

September 29, 2008

“Indie? Narco-Country?” That’s the question posed by Berkeley quartet Winter’s Fall on their web site, and it’s one that could be asked of a number of the bands dominating alternative music today. In recent years, groups like My Morning Jacket, Band of Horses and Fleet Foxes have emerged as the spiritual successors to Neil Young and his CSN brethren, mixing reverb-saturated vocals and twangy guitars into music that’s firmly rock-pop but with an introspective emotional core. From the moment you hear singer Peter Stanley’s voice, it’s apparent that Winter’s Fall draws from this same lineage, but the band’s first full length album, self-released earlier this year, features strong songwriting and a warm atmospheric feel that have it quickly becoming one of my favorite Bay Area records of the year. New Streaming/Resource Website for Bands - Bandcamp

September 26, 2008

The creators of Club Wiki have done it again with an amazing website for bands called Bandcamp. While MySpace has become the standard place for people to listen to music for free online, most wouldn’t agree that it’s damn ugly. Bandcamp changes that, with customizable headers and a clean, sleek layout. Bandcamp also allows downloads of multiple formats, places for lyrics and liner notes, and a nice interactive tool for bands to track their traffic and plays. Check it out!

After the jump you’ll find a little tutorial video to show you how it works. Or, you can visit the FAQ page.

Folsom Street Fair this Sunday

September 25, 2008

This Sunday, it’s the Folsom Street Fair, which San Franciscans will know isn’t your average street party. “San Francisco has served – and continues to serve – as the global epicenter of sexual liberation for the adult alternative lifestyle community,” write fair organizers, and this year marks the event’s 25th anniversary.

There are two stages bands at the street fest this year, including Bay Bridged interviewees Excuses for Skipping (interview here) and Von Iva (interview here), headliners The Presets, Shiny Toy Guns, Berlin (!) and The English Beat (!), and a ton of others. [More...]
