Triclops! – Secret 93
Obama’s election aside, all available signs indicate that we’re already neck deep in some pretty bad times in America, and I think that’s part of why I’ve found myself listening to Triclops!‘s Out of Africa quite a bit this year. Bad times call for heavy, feel-bad music to keep the blood boiling as things fall apart, and the band’s first full length release is a slab of acid punk that definitely delivers, fusing a wandering critical lyricism to compositions that draw from a broad array of post-hardcore, prog, metal and experimental rock sounds. Episode 141: French Miami
November 25, 2008
[pocast]http://media.libsyn.com/media/thebaybridged/French_Miami_Show.mp3[/podcast]

This week’s episode is presented by KQED Interactive.
This week, our podcast spotlights French Miami, a San Francisco band whose synth-rock sound is as immediately gripping as it is difficult to pigeonhole. Few groups have left the impression that this trio did when we first saw them perform at this year’s Rock Make Street Festival, where they delivered a compelling performance combining the precision of prog- and math-rock with an addictive melodic streak. It’s the rare band that can balance equal parts heaviness and catchiness without coming off as a disjointed mess, and French Miami manages to fuse the two with impeccable skill. [More...]

Palms, Skygreen Leopards and Dame Satan at Du Nord Saturday
November 24, 2008
There’s a great local lineup at Cafe du Nord this Saturday, Nov. 29 that will help you get through the post-Thanksgiving lull — Palms (i.e. Carolyn Pennypacker Riggs from The Finches), Skygreen Leopards and Dame Satan.
We’re not sure exactly what Palms has been up to since she took her project down to LA a few months ago, but we like what we hear so far:

Review: Blue Rabbit at Hotel Utah, Nov. 15
November 21, 2008
Bands with numerous members are always intriguing. Makes one wonder what occurs during a recording session for a band like The Arcade Fire which consists of violinists and trumpet players. How does one even start to compile and gather so much musical talent into one large group in order to commence creative outflow? In comes Blue Rabbit to answer some of the questions that spring from my curiosity. According to their bio, “Blue Rabbit is a band on the Bjork side of Arcade fire.” I concur, and they definitely showcased that side at Hotel Utah in San Francisco for their CD release party.
Blue Rabbit demands attention, and when a harpist, cellist, and three girls who harmonize extremely well line up the stage, you can’t help but be completely immersed in their music. [More...]
