Storytime Festival This Saturday at Palace of Fine Arts

It’s not exactly indie music, but this weekend’s Storytime Festival will bring together some of the Bay Area’s hardest working perfomers for a day of family fun that runs later into an “R-Rated” show for the rest of us.

The event is headlined by the amazing Vau De Vire Society, a local “avant-cabaret community” that features dancers, acrobats, musicians, circus performers and artists. Their Bohemian Carnival at DNA Lounge has attracted a lot of attention for being a fun and unique party, and they have collaborated with many local and non-local groups including the San Francisco Symphony, The Dresden Dolls, Crystal Method and more.

Theater and dance performers will also be featured throughout the festival, showcasing styles from around the world. And a “Magical Marketplace” will have interactive circus acts, live music, artists, merchants, face painters, balloon makers, food and drinks. From 4-7pm, bring the kiddies along for the “Tales of Enchantment” portion of the festival, and from 8-11pm, send them home and enjoy “Storytime for the Inner Child,” during which Hot Pink Feathers will perform, among others.

Tickets are $30-$50 and more details can be found on the website.

So, did anyone over there see this production? Any opinions? The evening show was severely R-rated. Lots of family folk began leaving within a song or two. Very international, very colorful event – not a lot of stories, though.
