oh Meg. It's Noise Pop, a music festival, the whole point of which is to showcase as many bands as possible. I think everyone in the room would have liked a four hour set from Josh but that's not what it was and never was. That said Josh was fantastic and the support really wasn't terrible, Laura Gibson was particularly good IMHO.

My only regret (apart from it not being a never-ending set) was that he didn't get enough mileage out of the string quartet. It seemed like they were nothing more than ambient without ever really building up a head of steam. Thin Blue Flame stuck out as a song where they didn't play at all but they could have been used to get that great crescendo going that makes it such a great song in recorded form. Hats off to Josh though for more than meeting my exceedingly high expectations of him.

Meg H, the openers were on the bill for at least a month, possibly more. The "solo" billing referred to the fact that he was playing without his band.

I did enjoy the opening acts, but I have to say that I was very disappointed to have so many of them! When I bought my tickets it was billed as Josh Ritter solo. I'm a fan and was thrilled at the prospect. The string quartet was then added (no problem with that--I wasn't able to go to his shows with full orchestras in other parts of the world; this seemed an equally promising idea). But when I checked a few days before the show all these other folks had been added. In addition they were allowed to all play what seemed to be unusually long sets for openers. This meant that Josh didn't start his set until 10:30--two and a half hours after the show started! It is at the least inconsiderate when promoters treat the audience's time, money and attention with such disregard.
