Win tickets to see The Thermals this Sunday!

May 29, 2009

UPDATE: Tickets gone in minutes! Be sure to follow @thebaybridged to get the latest TBB updates, contests and more!

The Thermals have gotten the better of me twice recently: first, by delivering some kick-ass shows during South by Southwest that came seemingly out of nowhere to become a festival highlight, then by releasing Now We Can See, a smart-fun-rocking album that may be their best yet.

The Thermals – “Now We Can See”

Live, the band makes more of a blissful racket than any other three-piece I can think of, so you should definitely try to catch one of the band’s Bottom of the Hill shows this weekend. Saturday night’s show is already 100% sold out, but we’ve got a pair of tickets to give away for Sunday’s show, with The Shaky Hands and Point Juncture, WA.

To win two tickets to Sunday’s show, just complete the following Thermals lyric, and be the first to reply to us on Twitter @thebaybridged with the answers. “Now we can see/The _________ and the _________” First correct answer wins the tickets!

If you don’t win the tickets, you can purchase them here. 9pm, $15, All Ages.

Or, the Whale – “Rope Don’t Break”

We’re quite excited about the show we’re presenting on Saturday, June 6th at The Independent, featuring two of our favorite local bands, Or, the Whale and Built for the Sea, along with The Maldives, a Seattle band about whom we’ve heard nothing but great things.

The show’s only $12, but we’re giving away a pair of tickets to a lucky reader. To win tickets to this show, all you have to do is send an email with your name and address to contest@thebaybridged.com by Wednesday, June 3rd at noon, with an answer to the following question:

Given the seafaring theme that runs throughout the band names, what’s your favorite nautical term and why? (This glossary should help if you’re stuck.)

The winner will be chosen at random and notified via e-mail. As always, particularly humorous answers may be reprinted on our site.

Thursday @ BotH: Black Moth Super Rainbow, School of Seven Bells, Odd Nosdam (9pm, $12)

Odd Nosdam
As we mentioned earlier this week, BMSR released Eating Us (Graveface) on Tuesday, an album just as synth heavy and fun as albums past. The show is supported by School of Seven Bells, a likeminded electronic getup from Brooklyn whose Alpinisms (limited vinyl out now) has been commended by both the New York Times and Pitchfork, wow!

And opening is Anticon’s founder Odd Nosdam, a king of layered electronic volume with an endless catalog of remixes: BMSR included as well as The Notwist and Boards of Canada; he’s also worked with TV on the Radio, Sage Francis, Múm, the Anticon family, and more. You can also find him DJing Wednesday nights in Berkeley at The Missouri Lounge.

May 27, 2009

Little Joy
Los Angeles’ own Little Joy is about to embark on a month long jaunt across the US and will be stopping at The Independent here in San Francisco next Wednesday. What began as a chance meeting in Lisbon between Rodrigo Amarante (Los Hermanos) and Fabrizio Moretti (The Strokes), Little Joy became a reality after a move to Los Angeles, the addition of Bikini Shapiro, and several late night song writing sessions; they released their first self-titled full length late last year on Rough Trade.

Little Joy – “No One’s Better Sake”

Although Moretti will not be joining the rest of the band on this tour due to his commitments with The Strokes, Little Joy has employed several new additions to fill out their live sound including Todd Dahlhoff and Matt Borg (The Dead Trees), Matt Romano (Albert Hammond Jr’s band), and Jack Dishel (Only Son).

With Leopold and his Fiction opening this night promises to not to disappoint – and for one lucky reader and their friend the show will be free! To win tickets to this show all you have to do is send an email with your name and address to contest@thebaybridged.com by Monday, June 1st at noon.
