Ford Motor Company’s video contest for regional musicians

June 25, 2010

Ford Motor Company is currently sponsoring a music video competition called Gimme The Gig, with the grand prize being a recording session with the allmighty Don Was. Corporate contests aside, who can resist free recording time with a famous producer?

The GimmeTheGig sweepstakes allows for independent musicians to submit their songs online at www.gimmethegig.com to be voted on by visitors, fans and others. Regional bands with the most votes will have an opportunity to perform live at a local event. A top band from each of the participating regions (Northwest, Southwest, Mountain States, Northern California & Southern California) plus two wildcards will then be invited to perform in Los Angeles in December where celebrity judges along with Don Was will select the Grand Prize winner who will receive a one day recording session with Don Was.

Those interested in participating will be able to submit their original music from now until November 30th, 2010. So, if you’re in a band, have a great song but don’t yet have a video to accompany it, you still have time to throw one together. Finalists will be contacted in December 2010.

Who can resist? Let’s see… me and a lot of people I know? We collectively piss all over bands that “sell out” after a long career and the band is long broken up. How sad is a band or artist that starts out doing that? We need to say goodbye to bands made up of people who want to be rock stars and hello to bands of people who love music. So ridiculous that so many people are so up in arms about corporate greed and all, but ready to drop to their knees and start sucking for contests like these.

I’m going to enter as soon as I finish contract negotiations for naming rights to my band.

Of course…says the guy who works for a corporate marketing agency specializing in odious American automobile accounts? Fail. Have to side with Andyw on this one.
