Greg Ashley – “Requiem Mass – Part I”
Oakland studio wizard Greg Ashley just released his latest album on Birdman Records, and it’s something of a curve ball after two solo records of psych-folk-pop. Side A of Requiem Mass and Other Experiments is, true to the album’s title, an electric requiem mass in four parts featuring contributions from a lengthy supporting cast of talented players. Side B is billed as “a series of sound and music experiments,” which Ashley has described in terms like “this fucked-up pulse,” “a wall of shit” and “a mess of instruments stumbling around,” descriptions that belie his restless sense of sonic adventure.
