Appetite – “Fiery Ring”
June 30, 2011

Appetite is the musical moniker of Teddy Briggs, who took on the name because “a lot of people, myself included, are hungry for things that they can’t even name. Or hungry for things they think they need, which they already have.”
Appetite’s Scattered Smothered Covered, out in August via Crossbill Records, should prove to be full of songs that encompass this idea. Until Scattered Smothered Covered is released, check out “Fiery Ring,” an outtake from the album.
Appetite will be playing on July 3rd in Davis at Robot Rocket Residence (7:00 pm), and at The Bay Bridged’s own Phono del Sol festival on July 16th (12:00 pm).

New, live recording from Battlehooch – “Joke”
June 30, 2011

Battlehooch is offering up a new, limited edition live EP, entitled Casual Religious. The EP features three favorite Battlehooch tunes plus one new track, entitled “Joke.”
During Battlehooch’s “Desolation” tour of 2010, the band stopped at a venue called the Hobby Shop, a live music space that doubles as a recording studio. The live recordings were engineered by Andrew “Mud” Murdock, and later mixed at San Francisco’s own Hyde Street Studios.
The band is releasing just 500 copies of the EP, available for free at Battlehooch’s show at the Independent Friday night, 7/1/11 (9:00 pm, $13, with Ghost and the City, Sun Hop Fat, and Panhandlers). Casual Religious will not be available for purchase after the limited copies are gone, so those who want the EP will have to head out to the Independent tomorrow night.

Eleanor Friedberger (The Fiery Furnaces) is playing at the Hotel Utah on 7/26/11
June 29, 2011

If spectators were at all surprised at the choice to host the recent Fiery Furnaces’ show at the relatively small Cafe Du Nord, they should be even more surprised to see where one half of the Furnaces, Eleanor Friedberger, will be playing a solo show on July 26th: the rather tiny Hotel Utah (9:00 pm, $10, 21+).
Todd’s review of the small-scale FF show mentioned that “the Fiery Furnaces stripped down are revealed as a private universe of neurotic genius made public – sort of like the music the twins in Vonnegut’s Slapstick might have made” and that “Eleanor’s voice even resembles a lower, rawer Martha Wainwright.” The 7/26 Hotel Utah show should prove to deliver more of the same, and perhaps be an even more unique experience, given the inherently intimate nature of the Hotel Utah. Tickets are on sale now.
Eleanor Friedberger – “My Mistakes”
Miss Friedberger’s show is in support of her new solo album, Last Summer, which comes out on July 12th via Merge Records.

Announcing Regional Bias 2011! Celebrate five years of The Bay Bridged with Little Wings, Royal Baths, White Cloud, and Sea of Bees at The Verdi Club on August 6th!
June 29, 2011

On August 6th, 2011, The Bay Bridged will celebrate five years of championing the San Francisco Bay Area indie music scene with the latest installment of our Regional Bias series of fundraiser events. Like its predecessors, Regional Bias 2011 takes place at the historic Verdi Club in the Mission District, with a spectacular lineup of bands including co-headliners Little Wings and Royal Baths, White Cloud, and Sea of Bees. Additionally, Regional Bias will be Royal Baths’ final SF show before the band relocates to the East Coast, so you’ll definitely want to be on hand to see their last local performance for the foreseeable future.
Regional Bias is a huge celebration of the things that make living in the Bay Area special. Although proceeds benefit The Bay Bridged, we’re keeping ticket prices low in hopes that you’ll join us to check out some of the best bands that the Bay Area has to offer.
We’ll also be tipping our collective hat to the Bay’s vibrant visual arts and food scenes, with a happy hour art show and tasty bites from local chefs for sale before and during the show. In other words, this isn’t your typical fundraiser, but it will be one hell of a night.
