Bird by Bird – “Simple Days”

Bird by Bird - While You Sleep

Perhaps the “Simple Days” were when Jonathan Devoto played guitar and vocals for the Matches – perhaps not. Either way, Bird by Bird is Devoto’s main project these days, along with drummer/singer Ross Traver. The Berkeley duo are set to release their debut record, While You Sleep, which comes out on August 16th. “Simple Days” is available for streaming now, featuring a much larger sound that you’d expect from only two musicians.

Catch Bird by Bird on August 18th, when they co-headline at Slim’s along with Plug in Stereo (8:00 pm, $13, all ages, DownDownDown and Weatherstar opening).

To say it’s a much larger sound than what you’d expect from two musicians is a bit silly. You do realize these tracks were recorded in a studio and then mixed. It’s not like they’re multitasking and playing more than one instrument at the same time on the track. Besides that this song sounds like a Bryan Adams reject from 1989.
