Jens Lekman – Cowboy Boots by TwentyFourBit.com
Swedish indie pop talent Jens Lekman just announced a new EP out September 20th, called An Argument With Myself, that he’ll be supporting with a brief US tour this fall. Perhaps a little more surprising, Lekman’s only announced San Francisco show is at the California Academy of Sciences, for a Treasure Island Music Festival-themed version of the Academy’s Nightlife series on Thursday, September 29th (6pm, $12). In any event, tickets are available now, and if you like clever, ultra-catchy pop, you ought to grab some.

Mixtape: The New Wave of Bay Area Shoegazers (Podcast #253)
Amidst its various other micro-scenes, San Francisco has long fostered bands incorporating the dreamy and noisy sounds of shoegaze. Over the years, groups like Film School, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, The Stratford 4, and others emerged from the Bay Area, employing dense, melodic distortion to much acclaim. Recently, it seems, a new crop of shoegaze-influenced bands has begun to emerge, led by breakout acts like Weekend, Young Prisms, and The Soft Moon. You’ll recognize some common threads among these bands, but there’s a diversity of influences and approaches here that suggests a bright future for Bay Area shoegazing.

Judging by the above Facebook comment, it appears that local synth-pop band The Art Museums have broken up, just on the heels of releasing a new 7″ on Slumberland Records.
The band left behind some great songs and were really fun at the recent Slumberland show at Popfest, and we’ll definitely keep you posted on future endeavors. If you were counting on seeing The Art Museums at the Woodsist Festival, know that they have been replaced by The Mantles.
