MOON DUO – Horror Tour by souterraintransmissions

Ex-SF/now-CO band Moon Duo has a new, Halloween-inspired 12″ called Horror Tour — dig that excellent cover art above. The record was available on the band’s European tour, but copies will also be available at Aquarius and a handful of other stores nationwide. Of note: the title track is the only one from the four-song set with vocals.

Thee Oh Sees – “The Dream”

Thee Oh Sees – “The Dream”

If my memory serves me correctly, “The Dream” was the final song of the Thee Oh Sees‘ Treasure Island set, and it’s the second track leaked from the band’s Carrion Crawler/The Dream, coming 11/15 via In the Red. Like “Carrion Crawler,” which was almost six minutes long, this one nearly makes the seven minute mark without overstaying its welcome in the slightest. Dwyer and company proved they could pull off longer songs with the epic “Warm Slime” last year, and it’s exciting to see them continuing to experiment in that vein. (Via Pitchfork)

String Band Music From Around The World this Sunday 10/30/11 from 3-5pm on KPFA 94.1

October 27, 2011

Last week we reported on Berkeley’s great Disciples of Markos playing the Greek hash den music of Markos Vamvakaris and featuring Berkeley’s finest bouzouki player, Dave Murray. We mentioned that he also plays with the Squirrelly Stringband (every 1st Friday at the Niebyl-Proctor library). Turns out Dave also has an amazing blog called Haji Maji. The focus is Asian 78s (yes that’s 78rpm-forget about cassettes and 45s!). He has released some of his Thai collection as Luk Thung via Atlanta’s brilliant Dust-to-Digital record label (actually their ‘Limited Edition Leg’ Parlortone).

This Sunday Oct. 30th, Dave will take his 78s to the airwaves on KPFA 94.1 from 3-5pm (on the Panhandle Country show hosted by Tom Diamant). According to Dave: [More...]
