TBB Video Premiere: Rat Columns – “I Wonder”
December 5, 2011
Rat Columns have a new video for their song “I Wonder,” directed by experimental filmmaker and Grass Widow‘s bassist, Hannah Lew. Lew has made films for a ton of local bands, including Shannon and the Clams, Hunx and his Punx, her own band, and Frankie Rose and the Outs. Shot by Aubree Bernier-Clark, “I Wonder” has a pleasing editing aesthetic — we love the triple-frame shots and fuzzy film quality. The song is on their recent EP available digitally and on vinyl from Smartguy.
The lo-fi pop three-piece Rat Columns claim allegiance to Perth, Australia, but all live in San Francisco. Their members include formers and currents from Rank/Xerox, Total Control, Abiyoyos, Burning Sensation, and several other bands. “Telephone Call” is a downtempo, shoegazy “b-side” — it was recorded with the other songs but didn’t make it onto the EP.
