The Walkmen – “Blue Turns To Grey” (Rolling Stones cover)
July 31, 2012
Written by Lauren Sloss

The Walkmen have had a good summer — their sixth full-length album Heaven came out in June to much acclaim, and they had a packed touring summer (including an appearance at the fast-approaching Outside Lands Music Festival).
Never ones to shy away from a guitar ballad, The Walkmen recently put out a spot-on cover of The Rolling Stones’ 1965-hit “Blue Turns to Grey.” Appearing on The Stones’ album December’s Children (And Everybody’s), the track is a great example of the more pop-rock side of the British Invasion, dirtied up and blues-downed just enough by Mick Jagger’s distinct vocals. Walkmen frontman Hamilton Leithauser tackles these vocals admirably, backed by lilting, ’60s style guitars.
