How To Dress Well – the solo recording project of Chicago’s Tom Krell – will return to Rickshaw Stop on Wednesday, December 5th for a second show of 2012 in support of the outstanding new album Total Loss.
Producer and musician Krell’s R&B-influenced sound is ethereal, with his fragile, pitch-perfect falsetto blanketing chilly dream pop beats. Total Loss was just released on September 18th, following How To Dress Well’s 2010 debut Love Remains and 2011′s Just Once EP. This sophomore LP quickly became one of my personal favorites this year, as Krell spills every fiber of his soul over the album’s eleven tracks. Listen to album highlight “& It Was U” below, as well as a new Pete Swanson remix of “Cold Nites”.
How To Dress Well performed at Rickshaw Stop for the first time back in June, supported by Babe Rainbow and Oakland’s Finally Boys. Babe Rainbow and instrumentalist Aaron Read joined Krell on stage for his performance. The band played a short, but beautiful set, and Krell explained that he would be playing more dates and longer sets once Total Loss was released.
True to his promise, How To Dress Well will return to the very same stage this winter. If you missed it the last time around, do yourself a favor and buy a ticket to the show.
