Tonight is the one year anniversary party of Push The Feeling, a dance series taking place the second Friday of each month at Underground SF in the Lower Haight. This week’s party will feature a DJ set from YACHT, plus a live set from Jeffrey Jerusalem and DJ sets from founders/residents epicsauce and YR SKULL. Advance tickets have sold out, but there will be a very limited amount of tickets available at the door for $10, so get there early. Doors open at 9pm.
Listen to YACHT’s “Second Summer”, released last month:
Push The Feeling, which typically includes one or two DJ sets and an electronic live act, was started by Kevin Meenan (epicsauce) and Andrew Marcogliese (YR SKULL, Silver Hands) a year ago. Kevin and Drew have been close friends since high school, regularly sharing music back and forth for years. While both came from more of a rock background, they have honed in on the electronic scene over the past few years.
Listen to Jeffrey Jerusalem’s 2012 EP ‘Keep Shadows From The Sun’:
Shortly after Drew moved back from L.A. into the Lower Haight with Kevin, the like-minded pair came up with the idea of “getting a night together that had the vibe of your typical DIY or small venue (i.e. what we grew up with) but featured the type of acts and tracks that we have gravitated towards,” Kevin told The Bay Bridged, stressing that they intended to “keep it cheap, not too clubish and ideally have a live element.”
Listen to YR SKULL’s “Push The Feeling #1″, released in conjunction last year’s inaugural show:
Kevin and Drew decided to start the series right in their own neighborhood as an alternative to the typical Mission shows. Kevin explained, “we just wanted to create a night that we (and ideally our friends) would both 100% want to go to ourselves.” The name “Push The Feeling” loosely comes from a 1992 club hit by the British house group Nightcrawlers called “Push The Feeling On”.
Listen to the Nightcrawlers’ 2013 remix of “Push The Feeling On”:
Kevin says the response and turnout for these events has been “nothing short of incredible.” Through the series, the pair has had the opportunity to book some of their favorite acts, receiving “nothing but positive feedback from the performers.” Push The Feeling’s first year has hosted Toro Y Moi, High Places, Magic Touch, Bobby Browser, Yalls, Shock, Blackbird Blackbird, Giraffage, Heathered Pearls, James & Evander, Hotthobo, Silver Hands, Avalon Emerson, Shortcircles, Baron Von Luxxury, Chucha Santamaria Y Usted, Natural Curves, and Chautauqua.
Drew and Kevin have plans to expand Push The Feeling this year, and more developments will be announced in the coming months. Drew is also one half of SF duo Silver Hands. Stream Silver Hands’ music below:
