Nidhi Chanani
These months keep flying by in 2010 – but we are incredibly thrilled showcase the work of our latest Artist in Residence, Nidhi Chanani. Nihi received formal training in illustration from the Academy of Art here in San Francisco and holds a BA in Literature from UC Santa Cruz. In her own words:

as a conscious, curious and educated person i am often overwhelmed by the pain in the world. i create cute art because it makes me happy – with hopes it can make others happy, too.

She is also a strong supporter of local music where she designs fliers, banners, and album art for her husbands band, Monsters are not Myths. Head to her web site to see her blog with more of her current work and if you like what you see Nidhi is also available for freelance work.

September is upon us and we are thrilled to unveil our latest new banner in our Artist in Residence series! For the next two months we have the amazing work of Matthew Fleming gracing the top of our website; the piece above is black ball-point pen on paper.

Fleming is originally from Milwaukee where he received two BFA’s: one in Drawing & Painting, and a second in Graphic Design. (University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee) After working in the Milwaukee area for a while he moved out to Oakland last April and has been working from his apartment since then.

I like to take a unique approach to each project I do, so I don’t really have one specific style of design or illustration. I feel that keeps things fresh, and it’s a learning experience each time since a lot of it is done by hand.

Lately he has been working on a series of bicycle-related t-shirts and he’s also found himself designing a lot of band merch and anything else he can get his hands on.

Check out his portfolio over at BlackT-shirt.com

We are pleased to show off the work of Keith Gidlund – a local photographer who is also a member of the Berkeley based indie rock band and local favorite, Winter’s Fall.

A life long Californian, Keith studied photography at SF State while apprenticing with and assisting some of the bay area’s most renowned fine art photographers. He’s continued as a traditional black and white art contractor, working with a wide range of photographers, galleries and art institutions as well as producing his own work. As a purely traditional based photographer, Keith exclusively uses film cameras and a darkroom to produce his images.

I’ve enjoyed collecting, spacial organization and fine craft my whole life and photography, for me, is all of these.

You can find more of Keith’s work here and check out his band, Winter’s Fall, here.
