Port O’Brien CD Review on KQED Interactive

May 15, 2008

For those of you who haven’t noticed, about a month ago The Bay Bridged began a partnership with KQED Interactive. About twice a month we’ll be writing up shows, CD Reviews, and other happenings in and around the bay area on their site. This week Emily reviews Port O’Brien’s brand new album, All We Could Do Was Sing which came out this week:

The opening track “I Woke Up Today” feels like a modern day “We Will Rock You,” only with a much less forceful message — the kind of tune that you and might sing (or yell) along to while cruising the sidewalks or jumping for joy. These anthemic group vocals have popped up many times in recent indie music, and while it’s not hard to see it getting old, Port O’Brien certainly does it best.

Head on over to KQED Interactive to read the full review.

DJ Shadow - “San Francisco”

May 7, 2008

DJ Shadow

Via the excellent MissingToof, Bay Area instrumental hip hop titan DJ Shadow has partnered with Nokia for a contest called “What does your city sound like?” Contestants are encouraged to record and submit sounds that represent their cities and Shadow will use the winning city’s sounds to create a brand new song.

The DJ has sampled from a number of familiar City landmarks to create his own new track titled “San Francisco.” Reminiscent of his early works, it’s a moody, driving song that you can stream and download from MissingToof here.
