The Bay Bridged Presents: The Return of The Mommyheads
August 26, 2008
Asking an independent music fan about The Mommyheads seems to provoke either frenzied enthusiasm or a blank stare. Such is the blessing and burden of being one of the great cult acts of the 1990s and a band that has been credited with pioneering an eclectic indie pop sound now heard in acts like Death Cab for Cutie and Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin (the latter of whom are devout Mommyheads fans).
While The Mommyheads began in New York, in 1990 leader Adam Elk and the group relocated to San Francisco, where they produced a series of strong works including 1995’s Bingham’s Hole, considered by some one of the decade’s best albums. After label difficulties accompanied the release of their self-titled major label debut in 1997, the band soon folded, and while several members went on to well-received solo and collaborative musical projects, that was it for The Mommyheads. Until recently, at least. [More...]

Announcing the Rock Make Street Festival, a free all day local music and crafts street fair in the heart of San Francisco’s Mission District
While there are many outdoor festivals and street fairs this summer, San Franciscans won’t find one that celebrates Bay Area arts and music more than the Rock Make Street Festival, a free all day block party to be held on Sunday, August 24th, 2008 on Treat Street between 17th St and 18th St in San Francisco’s Mission District. The free six-hour party will feature an expected fifty local independent arts and crafts vendors selling their wares alongside two stages of great indie music from a dozen of the best Bay Area independent rock bands. Bands already confirmed include Tartufi, Silian Rail, Low Red Land, Rademacher, French Miami, Emily Jane White and Settler, with more to be announced shortly. For years, the duo of Meric Long and Logan Kroeber have traveled the country, showcasing their dynamic performance skills and developing a winning collection of songs that incorporate elements of psych rock, folk, and indie pop. To fans of the group’s first album, Beware of the Maniacs, the new record’s blend of catchy and intense sounds is no surprise, but it’s also a wholly more ambitious and exciting work that’s had critics across the country overflowing with praise.

The Bay Bridged Presents: The Ian Fays’ CD Release Party
April 16, 2008

The Bay Bridged is proud to announce the latest “Bay Bridged Presents” event, a concert celebrating the release of Dylan’s Lost Days, the sophomore album by San Francisco’s The Ian Fays. If the Fays’ debut established them as one of the most promising groups in the Bay Area, their newest work places the band’s signature heartfelt and intimate storytelling into a more mature musical framework. The hushed tones and layered melodic pop are still there, but in place of a lo-fi feel, the band has now fully embraced bold, confident rock.
It’s really a great show from top to bottom:
