Monday: SF Mayoral Candidates Discuss Music and Nightlife (with performances by Bob Mould and Zoë Keating)
September 29, 2011

Bob Mould – “City Lights (Days Go By)”
The vibrancy of the San Francisco music scene doesn’t just depend on the talents of the City’s many musicians. City policies and practices can have a serious impact on local artists’ quality of life and on the venues where they perform. Things like the enforcement of noise ordinances, the availability of affordable housing, gentrification, and venue and event permitting matter, and when you’re voting for San Francisco’s next mayor this November, we hope you’ll be informed about where the candidates stand on these and other important issues.
To that end, we’re happy to co-sponsor a Recording Academy/CMAC-hosted forum featuring candidates for Mayor of San Francisco discussing music and nightlife-related issues. The event is free, and it takes place Monday, October 3rd at The Fillmore (6pm doors, 6:30 start). If you’re leery of just hearing people talk about music, though, you’ll probably be excited to know that there will also be live music! In addition to the forum, there will also be performances by Bob Mould and Zoë Keating!
Again, admission is free, but you have to RSVP here.

September 28, 2011
If you are like us, you probably enjoy the following things: local bands, free shows, mixtapes, and the Treasure Island Music Festival. On Friday, October 7th, we’re throwing a party combining all of these elements as something we’re calling “Buried Treasure,” a free Treasure Island Music Festival pop-up concert and mixtape exchange taking place at San Franpsycho’s flagship store (1314 Grant Avenue, San Francisco) in North Beach.
On the music front, we’re psyched to have performances by locals Melted Toys and ChuCha Santamaria Y Usted, as well as a DJ set by Elephant and Castle. On the mixtape front, we’ve partnered with the San Francisco Mixtape Society to throw the event. Bring a mixtape around the theme “Buried Treasure” to exchange with other attendees. The person with the best mixtape will win a pair of passes to the Treasure Island Music Festival!
This free happy hour event should be a great way to kick off your weekend and get psyched for Treasure Island (and maybe even win a couple of TIMF passes!). We’ll see you there!

Photos & Recap: Regional Bias 2011 with Royal Baths, Little Wings, White Cloud, Sea of Bees
August 9, 2011

Regional Bias 2011 took place Saturday night, and we couldn’t be happier with how it turned out. All four bands ruled, with the only bittersweet element being the knowledge that Royal Baths’ electrified high-point-among-high-points set was their last in SF for the foreseeable future. If you came, thank you for your support! If you missed it, catch up with this photo set from Nicole Browner, Anna Gazdowicz, and Todd Wanerman.
Thanks again to everyone involved in RB 2011: To our performers, Little Wings, Royal Baths, White Cloud, and Sea of Bees. To our DJs, Peter Arko, Joe Hayes, and Kevin Meenan. To our artists, Tanner Griepentrog, Lionel Guzman, Charlie Homo, Joshua Rampage, Jared Silbert, and Michael Thurston. To our food providers, Rosamunde Sausage Grill and Rocky’s Frybread. To Outside Lands and Treasure Island for their generous raffle prizes. To our tireless staff and volunteers for their assistance throughout the night. Last but not least, thank you to Brian Gorman and everyone at The Verdi Club, which remains one of the best kept secrets in SF live music. (Seriously, how are all ages shows not happening there every night?)
Our next live event is the 2011 Rock Make Street Festival on Saturday, September 17th. Vendor applications are still being accepted at RockMake.com. Have we not announced the performing bands yet? Stay tuned…

Counting down to Regional Bias: Why your support is so important!
July 29, 2011

We’re a little over one week away from our annual Regional Bias concert (and our fifth birthday party!), taking place on August 6th at the Verdi Club in San Francisco (7pm, $10-20, tickets on sale now!). As we’ve said before, even though Regional Bias is a fundraiser, our top priority is making it a really fun, special night for everyone who attends. To that end, we’ve got four great bands performing — Little Wings and Royal Baths, White Cloud, and Sea of Bees — as well as DJs, art, and more.
Entertainment value aside, though, there’s another reason to buy tickets to Regional Bias to which we’ve already alluded. Your tickets help support the work of The Bay Bridged, our fiscally-sponsored nonprofit project dedicated to championing the best of Bay Area indie music. This year, we’ve continued to grow our support of local music, throwing a brand new free festival in Phono del Sol, and beefing up our blog coverage of local indie music with more posts about more bands. That’s in addition to our upcoming annual Rock Make Street Festival, other concerts we help promote and produce, and a whole bunch of other projects (online and offline) that we have currently in the pipeline.
Your support, by attending Regional Bias, will help us continue to do all of these things and more. It means the world to us to champion the amazing and wide-ranging collection of talented musicians who call the San Francisco Bay Area home, and we greatly appreciate any help you can offer. But even if the “out of the goodness of your heart” pitch doesn’t work, just know that Regional Bias 2011 is going to be a great night of excellent local music that you won’t want to miss. We’ll see you there!
All the best,
The Bay Bridged

Countdown to Phono del Sol: sample all of the performing artists!
July 11, 2011

As you should know by now, this Saturday, July 16th, The Bay Bridged and Tiny Telephone are throwing the first annual Phono del Sol Music and Food Festival in San Francisco’s Potrero del Sol Park. There are a lot of reasons to be excited about this FREE, all ages, all day festival, and we’ll be counting down those reasons all week long.
Today, let’s focus on the six great local acts that make up the live music portion of Phono del Sol. Below, learn a little bit more about all of the performers.
Aesop Rock

It’s been four years since acclaimed hip hop artist Aesop Rock released a solo album, but he’s been hard at work on a boatload of new projects. Along with Rob Sonic and DJ Big Wiz (who will both be in attendance at Phono del Sol), Rock is one-third of Hail Mary Mallon, who recently released Are You Gonna Eat That? on Rhymesayers. Additionally, Rock has been working with Kimya Dawson on songs for her album, as well as a joint project with the singer-songwriter. Finally, there’s the much anticipated next Aesop Rock solo album, which is also forthcoming.
What will Rock play at Phono del Sol? New stuff? Old stuff? You have to be there to find out.
Hail Mary Mallon – â€Smockâ€
Mirah

Our other coheadliner is another longtime favorite, Mirah, whose terrific 2011 album with Thao Nguyen was the duo’s first, but the latest in a long line of great releases from this talented singer-songwriter. A longtime member of the K/Northwest scene, Mirah’s now based out of SF, and we’re happy to have her moving voice and keen, heartfelt songwriting on the local team.
Man/Miracle

Oakland’s Man/Miracle have been extremely busy lately, but we’ll wait until we publish an interview with the band later this week to talk about all of the latest developments. What we can say is this: over the years, we’ve watched these talented guys blossom as a group and release a killer album in The Shape of Things, but, above all, their live shows have always been a kinetic burst of energy to behold.
