Casiotone For The Painfully Alone’s “California Grand Finale Weekend”
On December 5, 1997, Owen Ashworth played his first show under the Casiotone For The Painfully Alone moniker. Thirteen years later, on December 5, 2010, Ashworth is retiring CFTPA with a final show at Bottom of the Hill (9pm, $12, All Ages) before heading on to pursue new musical projects.


Terrorbird celebrates the holidays in style
As music marketing companies go, Terrorbird consistently has one of the best rosters around. That may not mean a lot to you, but trust me, when it comes to the thousands of emails we receive about new bands to check out, the Terrorbird ones are quality picks that head to the top of the stack. The Terrorbird Holiday Extravaganza at Bottom of the Hill on December 4th (9pm, $10, All Ages) features local Maus Haus and Exrays, along with Highland Park art-poppers Fol Chen.

Every month, we dedicate the first week’s podcast to highlighting some of the great local and out-of-town bands performing soon in the San Francisco Bay Area. We’ve got twelve great bands playing some excellent shows around the Bay in July, so head out and see some live music!

About the bands:

Twin Sister (“All Around and Away We Go”) and fellow New Yorkers Bear in Heaven head to SF as part of their cross-country tour. Beach Fossils joins the two bands at the Rickshaw Stop on July 26th.

Seattle’s Grand Hallway (“Raindrops”) just put out a DVD, Live at the Triple Door,” in which the band was joined by the Seattle Rock Orchestra and Perkins School Children’s Choir. Locals Birds & Batteries and The Moanin’ Dove also play at Cafe Du Nord on July 11th

Fol Chen (“In Ruins”) released their second album, Part II: The New December, today on Asthmatic Kitty Records. The Highland Park will be at Bottom of the Hill on July 7th, with Aim Low Kid and Jhameel.

Blackbird Blackbird‘s (“Pure”) LP Summer Heart is now out digitally, with a vinyl release to follow later this year. They’ll join Secret Cities and Lucky Cloud on Tuesday, July 6th at the Elbo Room.

Lazarus (“The Sky Of The Tall Sun”) is led by Trevor Montgomery, formerly of Tarentel. They’ll be at the Hemlock Tavern with Colossal Yes, Donovan Quinn and Zachary Cale on July 11th.

The latest release from Matthew Houck’s Phosphorescent (“The Mermaid Parade”) is Here’s To Taking It Easy, out now on Dead Oceans. On July 28th, Phosphorescent is at Bottom of the Hill with Little Wings and J. Tillman.

Mat Brooke and Grand Archives (“Oslo Novelist”) are touring with his former Carissa’s Wierd bandmate Jenn Ghetto’s S. The Northern Key opens their July 21st show at the Rickshaw Stop.
