Photos & Recap: Regional Bias 2011 with Royal Baths, Little Wings, White Cloud, Sea of Bees

August 9, 2011

White Cloud @ Regional Bias 2011

Regional Bias 2011 took place Saturday night, and we couldn’t be happier with how it turned out. All four bands ruled, with the only bittersweet element being the knowledge that Royal Baths’ electrified high-point-among-high-points set was their last in SF for the foreseeable future. If you came, thank you for your support! If you missed it, catch up with this photo set from Nicole Browner, Anna Gazdowicz, and Todd Wanerman.

Thanks again to everyone involved in RB 2011: To our performers, Little Wings, Royal Baths, White Cloud, and Sea of Bees. To our DJs, Peter Arko, Joe Hayes, and Kevin Meenan. To our artists, Tanner Griepentrog, Lionel Guzman, Charlie Homo, Joshua Rampage, Jared Silbert, and Michael Thurston. To our food providers, Rosamunde Sausage Grill and Rocky’s Frybread. To Outside Lands and Treasure Island for their generous raffle prizes. To our tireless staff and volunteers for their assistance throughout the night. Last but not least, thank you to Brian Gorman and everyone at The Verdi Club, which remains one of the best kept secrets in SF live music. (Seriously, how are all ages shows not happening there every night?)

Our next live event is the 2011 Rock Make Street Festival on Saturday, September 17th. Vendor applications are still being accepted at RockMake.com. Have we not announced the performing bands yet? Stay tuned…

Little Wings – “Gold Teeth”

Royal Baths – “Nikki Don’t”

This Saturday, August 6th, 2011, The Bay Bridged celebrates five years of championing the San Francisco Bay Area indie music scene with our annual Regional Bias fundraiser concert event. Like its predecessors, Regional Bias 2011 takes place at the historic Verdi Club in the Mission District, with a spectacular lineup of bands including co-headliners Little Wings and Royal Baths, White Cloud, and Sea of Bees. Additionally, Regional Bias will be Royal Baths’ final SF show before the band relocates to the East Coast, so you’ll definitely want to be on hand to see their last local performance for the foreseeable future.

White Cloud – “Braised Cattle”

Look, over the past several weeks, we’ve explained how important Regional Bias is to our work here at The Bay Bridged. We’ve previewed new music from some of the performing bands. We’ve talked about the raffle we’re holding, and about the DJs, artists, and food vendors who will all be helping make the night really special. Now, we hope you’ll join us on Saturday night. See you then!

Four more reasons to attend Regional Bias: art, food, DJs, and a little bonus for people who arrive first…

August 4, 2011

As we count the days until Saturday’s Regional Bias fundraiser show — featuring Little Wings, Royal Baths (farewell show!), White Cloud, and Sea of Bees — here are a few more details about some of the other treats in store on August 6th.

Food!

We’ve mentioned a few times that there will be food at Regional Bias. We’re pleased to announce that savory and sweet treats will be available for purchase from Rosamunde Sausage Grill and Rocky’s Frybread. You know what goes really well with beer and music? Sausages and frybread, so be sure to come hungry.

DJs!

Local music comrades Kevin Meenan (Epicsauce) and Peter Arko (Ears of the Beholder) will be manning the DJ booth, making sure that there will be plenty of good tunes playing while you’re looking at cool art and snacking between sets.

Art!

We’ve got some great local artists lined up who will be showing pieces available for purchase on Saturday night, including Charlie Homo, Joshua Rampage, Jared Silbert, Kyle Field, and more.

Oh yeah, one more thing…

Attendees on Saturday night will receive a free, hand-screened show poster while supplies last, so get to the Verdi Club on time!

Little Wings: two tapes out on Gnome Life Records, co-headlining Regional Bias on August 6th!

HALLOWEEN 2020 by LITTLE WINGS by Gnome Life Records

“Halloween 2020″ comes from Made It Rain, a new cassette from Little Wings, who is co-headlining our Regional Bias fundraiser/birthday party on August 6th.

The new tape is out now on Gnome Life Records. Says the label:

This tape is a direct transmission from the mind of Kyle Field (A.K.A. Little Wings)… brain waves reflected off a storm cloud and the nearby ocean… song droplets from Kyle and the windy mother. A chill out tape of eclectic covers, Little Wings classics remixed, a little story telling, and a fully new song to boot.

Recorded on cassette tape live in The Dream Yurt, high on the cliffs of Big Sur, California, above the Pacific Ocean, one late night in May 2011, in the midst of a gentle but unrelenting rain storm which eventually cut the party short by outing the power. “Made it Rain” is a wild artifact from the wild west.

Field’s recent Black Grass is also seeing reissue as a tape for Gnome Life. Listen to a song from that great album below.

HVN223 Sea Of Bees – Gnomes (Tunng Remix) by heavenlyrecordings

We can’t think of a better way to kick off our Regional Bias fundraiser on August 6th than with a performance by Sacramento’s Sea of Bees. Julie Baenziger’s stunning indie folk-rock project is about to release its third single from Songs For the Ravens, and Gnomes, out August 15th 23rd, features the title track, the above remix by Tunng, and two unexpected covers. Blue Oyster Cult and U2 aren’t exactly names that come to mind when you think Sea of Bees, but that makes me all the more curious to hear Baenziger tackle “Don’t Fear The Reaper” and “With Or Without You.”
